Your subject line must cause recipient to take action and open your email. The email's subject line is the ad for the email message. You want to cause curiosity in the reader, make them desire to learn more, to take that next step - to open and read your message. Test your subject lines to determine which provides you a higher open rate. A simple change in the subject line can many times, double or even triple your open rate. Make your subject line unique - don't fall into the trap of using the exact same subject line that every other affiliate is using - be creative and make yours different - better. APD Tactic 6 - Personalizing Your Emails Use the variable tags available to you when composing your email message - certainly you will want to use the person's first name, not only in the greeting , but several times throughout the email message. The more conversational you can make your message the greater will be your impact. This is a great place to summarize and to get to the crux of the matter. PS's are also a great place to leave hooks, to create anticipation - expectancy - a "buzz" "PS - Be sure to watch for my email tomorrow afternoon - it will have the subject line "For Your Eyes Only" - You won't want to miss this." Once you begin to consistently write ps's - your subscribers will begin to expect that and will cause them to read thru your entire message - just so they can see what you have to say in the ps. Occasionally give out a free product to the 7th person who emails - but only mention it in the PS - Follow up your next message with telling about the person who won the free product that you mentioned in the ps. Next time your readers will be more inclined to read your entire message along with the ps..
APD Tactic 9 - Use Your Autoresponders One of the most common mistakes that many - I would say most - people who build a list, fail to do - is to fully use their autoresponder service. While a autoreponder service is a great way to send out promotion emails or weekly newsletters/ezines using the "broadcast" mode. Most people fail to setup a series of messages that are automatically sent every few days - or once a week to every new subscriber. APD Tactic 12 - Comply with the Law When using email marketing you must abide by the law. Never send commercial messages to those who have not requested or given you permission to send them emails. This is another reason why I am such a proponent of using paid autoresponder services - they provide the subscriber verification and the web servers to deliver your emails and they make sure that when emails are sent out for you that they comply with the Can-Spam Act of 2003. While this act as many provisions - be sure that your email and a unsubscribe link is on all commercial emails you send out.
